IMPOSSIBLE to get assistance. Unless you have nothing, absolutely nothing - you will get absolutely nothing. If you happened to lose your job, don’t bother looking for help. I tried CalFresh and Cash Aid and a bunch of excuses as to why I’m not eligible. A good standing citizen. What a shame.

Horrible. I signed up for the general relief due to needing help cause I don't have family or friends that I can call or depend on when I need help. Obviously I'm signing up for this loan cause I'm desperate to b able to get by. Being homeless and having a dog that is like my child just had a stoke and no longer has control over all of his bodily functions. And living in my car being compl out of gas. I've already waited weeks for this appointment and because I was late by accident. I have to wait almost another week when I honestly don't know what I'm going to do in the next several days cause m order case overload is Obviously far to much for her to handle as she keeps telling me. I have to wait due to a signature. .I am dislectic and wrote my appointment time and date backwards so I didn't wake up in time. I waited all day yesterday. Stuck with no gas hoping to hear from my worker Pam. I finally get a call early the next morning. She needed my social to verify whom I was. When she called my personal phone. Like I'm not capable of waking up early. If I didn't need this help badly in the first place when I've already been waiting weeks for. I just don't feel my worker is going to b able to handle my cause properly due to her case being so over loaded. As she keeps telling me

This place has helpful, friendly staff. I've been here many times. The bad reviews seem to be reviewing based on irrelevant criteria. If you are denied for a service or aid, that has nothing to do with the office staff in this building.

In early September, my partner and i applied together for food stamps, I became unemployed after 11 years and I could not afford to stay living in our home county, Ventura. My partner had been on food stamps, living with me as I brought in a salary whereby just the housing and transportation costs took more than half my paycheck. We ended up here, seeking help. I hadn’t heard anything from my worker Rod Nielsen for over a month despite calling and visiting the center several times. We finally got a determination — I was eligible for about $20? Maybe, a month, and medi - cal. My partner, nothing because he had been getting aid in another state, as documented on the letter of determination. I called the agency, Rod and his supervisor at least 6 times, visiting the center with my partners calfresh card and the letter, to be told it would go right into a cue to be seen by his supervisor. After a week, no calls. No response. No letters. Nothing. Down to $40 to last us a week, I called the front desk and asked for my worker. The receptionist said she could forward me to his voicemail or I could come in for a drop in appointment. I also asked her if she had seen Rob, she said no and that there was a whole back office where she never sees anybody. About 20 minutes later, I arrived for a drop in worker — Rod happened to be the one sitting in the front office with the front desk receptionist who said she hadn’t seen him. I was emotional, scared, hungry, angry, disappointed right upon entering. The lady talked to Rod and Rod then spun around and stood up and told I should be GRATEFUL for the little I got because a lot of people get nothing. I said I called you numerous times about the determination and you never called back. He only berated me further about how he could do nothing even though my partners calfresh card proved he lived in the state. I insisted on talking to his supervisor Jocelyn who met me at a drop in window. There, with a crowd of workers around her, couldn’t answer simple questions about maximum earnings for two, didn’t know rent deductions, etc. she also had never seen the paperwork and calfresh card i was told was going into a cue for her to see. when she finally looked up the income limit — we are below it — , she told me my unemployment counted dollar for dollar, even though it was pre tax, and that my rental costs were NOT dollar for dollar. She only knew there was a deduction calculation but didn’t know the answers. I asked her to show me the calculations, I was very heated and emotional realizing how callous and ignorant the people were I was working with there, and asked Jocelyn to show me how the calculations worked. She opened a page on a screen and started to turn the monitor toward me. I still couldn’t not see it so I moved it toward me, at the same time she yanked it from me after she realized she turned the monitor off and said loudly so everyone could hear it, WE DONT JERK COMPUTER SCREENS HERE. I told she was feeling volatile. She said, NO IM NOT FEELING VOLATILE. I told she was because I was and that I had to go, i left in tears, realizing this woman was trying to instigate a fight with me. Rod Nielsen never confirmed I even got the food card, which I never did. Jocelyn stood to humiliate me due to her own ignorance and paranoia.
I am certainly scared to walk back into their offices lest they try to provoke me into an argument after publicly shaming me.
I have zero faith and I hope someone looks into what kind of training they get to be so hostile. FYI, the team there was in training at least half the time since i had applied for help.
If you really want help and understanding, might be better to head out of state. I’ve never been so humiliated by taxpayer funded workers as I was that day and my son and i were on benefits from cash benefits and food stamps to daycare costs. I lived in San Diego, Port hueneme, Fresno and my partner used the oxnard center. And BY FAR, these are the worst group of workers I have ever encountered.

IHSS could be more helpful if we actually got paid on said dates instead of waiting 7-14 days on direct deposit, also allowing companies to use generic hours with out paying overtime. that needs to fkn change.

Just called to ask for a updated list for all services offered for low income/homeowners I use to have and all she did was give me housing authority number which would of been on that list I requested 😉 still love programs they offer to help us, and receptionist nice, just didn't listen.

My son is in a conservatorship and the staff that are supposed to be taking care of his needs do nothing for him. No clothes, no specialist, nothing. Typical Del Norte.
