Diana dramatically changed the way I perceive client-therapist relationships and my own history of disordered eating. I’d show up to sessions ready to be judged for having slipped up and prepared to defend myself for trying my best and just not knowing the difference between disordered behavior and recovery-oriented behavior. I got caught being so self-conscious of every potential misstep, but every time I’d show up to session, Diana would love on me and in not so many words, assure me that my best is the point and there was nothing to forgive myself for. She encouraged me to be curious about my behaviors and replace my default to punish myself for being imperfect with unconditional self-gratitude. When I couldn’t trust myself, I thank god I had Diana to trust to make sure I was in step with recovery. She reminded me consistently that part of being recovered is shirking perfectionism and that recovery is a series of choices. And through her teachings and demeanor, Diana made herself into a dear friend, one I always knew would be honest, loving, and compassionate before anything else. She made herself available outside of sessions and was quick to embrace me anew after I discontinued sessions for a couple years. I can’t express the depth of my gratitude for Diana sufficiently, she was instrumental in my learning how to recognize myself for my inherent qualities rather than my body or the rules for keeping it thin and unfeeling. I’m still on the journey, but without Diana I’d still not know self love is even possible. Diana will forever be in my heart and the cheerleader roaring in the back of my head♥️
