I was hesitant to sign up for a new gym. I was in peak shape of my life a few years ago. And then I had a baby and an invasive surgery. And I allowed my healing incision to dictate not moving as much. And I fell into the trap of âmaybe next month.â That cycle continued. When we moved back to this area from LA I figured enough was enough and Iâd give it a try. Not only is Blake motivating for all body types but they are under priced for the value brought to the table.
I signed up for a free week towards the end of 2019 (they now offer 10 FREE CLASSES- ie: unheard of) & I signed up by my 3rd day. FF classes go at your own pace- you choose your weight, intensity and input. But youâre surrounded by people of all ages, sizes, & physical levels, so you canât help but feel motivated.
I stayed with Blake into the heart of the pandemic & had to call it when everything officially shut down. We took some time off and tried to get back in but our kiddo ended up with an unrelated long term hospitalization. Blake and his team were motivating, patient and even checked in on us when we still werenât coming to classes. This is the kind of community he creates. We really wanted to get back into the gym but kept finding roadblocks that set us back. If youâre like me you just need that one extra push, that one sign to say okay, letâs do it.
This gym is like an eclectic family. Iâm not even a veteran client but itâs cool to welcome new members every week. Youâre welcomed here. Pretentiousness is left at the door. I donât feel judged when I show up, I look forward to seeing our âgym friendsâ and laughing away the stress of the outside world. Whether youâre sporting a baggy t shirt or a cute matchy outfit you'll fit right in. I leave every day feeling inspired, proud of my work and eager to push harder the next day.
Working out was easy for me a few years ago and then I had a kiddo and I sounded like I was climbing Mount Everest at the end of 45 seconds of jump rope. I laughed it off and pushed harder each day and I found a way to control what I CAN control- myself. We are our own excuses and those excuses get left at the door when youâre here.
I feel happier and more fulfilled since making some really simple changes in the gym. I can play longer with our toddler without getting tired. I love meeting new friends each day and hearing similar stories. Weâre in this together. We convinced our senior mom to come as well and she loved it. There are âkidsâ younger than my husband and I, lots of people our parents age as well as our grandparents age! We even have some great grandparents next to us crushing the classes. Where else do you get this kind of mix of people high-fiving each other, cheering each other on and celebrating new accomplishments? Itâs such a unique vibe.
Now for my review of the gym itself: itâs clean. Light and airy, plenty of equipment, new and exciting exercises but a familiar vibe of routine.
They have a free kidz zone room for kiddos to play while we workout (a screen is provided for easy visual access to make sure she is happy and if you are more comfortable you can bring a little monitor from home. We used to but feel very comfortable now that weâre used to it. There isnât child care staffed but we are just feet away and can see her at all times.) Thereâs a tv if she wants to watch something but there are so many toys she rarely uses it.)
Each station is thoroughly explained and questions are encouraged. There are 3 level demonstrations: advanced, intermediate and beginner. Blake is all about knowing your bodyâs limits.
I love the music. Iâd venture to say all genres are represented. It keeps the pace going. I hate quiet gyms without music. Iâm sorry I donât want to hear you breathing next to me. I want to stay focused and the music is a perfect solution to keep me motivated.
Ladies: I havenât been to it yet, but Blakeâs wife also hosts an all females class which I hear is awesome.
Cons: havenât found any after almost 2 years, but I encourage you to come check out what all the hype is about.
