I had a 60-minute Japanese Shiatsu service here for the first time today. I have two massage places I frequent but occasionally like to try something new. The staff were polite and very accommodating, but the massage was lackluster and uncomfortable. I asked for medium to strong pressure, and as the massage progressed, I noticed that my massage therapist addressed areas asymmetrically and that the pressure she was using ranged from very light to very strong. I have never had to asked to change the pressure intensity well into the massage, but I had to ask the massage therapist I had to decrease the pressure she was using on my legs because it was quite painful. Even after she stopped, that area was throbbing for another minute or so. Her motions felt a bit repetitive and not intuitive, and I generally felt like the flow of the massage made it difficult to relax.

They provided a tea and a small piece of chocolate at the end which was a nice treat. Perhaps there are better massage therapists at this business, but overall, I do not think I will be coming back since I have had much better experiences elsewhere for the same price point or less.

My first Shiatsu massage experience was at Shiatsu of Pasadena with Tina. I’ve had a great deal of massage work, and she was one of the best masseuses I’ve experienced. She communicated at several points, asking regarding pressure and offering adjustments. She put in extraordinary work to provide deep tissue when needed. Additionally, Dani at the front desk was kind and respectful. She offered me freshly brewed tea and dark chocolate post treatment and answered all of my questions. I will definitely be returning.

One of the best places to get a massage in the SGV! Always professional, AMAZING massage therapists, and great customer service. They always provide you with tea and some sort of cookie after the massage. It’s a great touch. My favorite massage to purchase here is the shiatsu with the hot rocks. I leave the salon feeling more relaxed, limber and overall restored. Price is also very reasonable.

I recently had a 90-minute massage at Shiatsu of Pasadena and it completely exceeded my expectations. I had resigned myself to the belief that finding a skilled massage therapist was a matter of luck, and I must say, I got incredibly lucky with this place. I usually opted for massages at ‘Massage Envy’ but ‘Shiatsu of Pasadena’ has outshined them in every aspect. Not only was the quality of the massage superior, but the prices were also more affordable, which was a delightful surprise!

100% scam. Not shiatsu, not Japanese, not credible massage of any kind, and in violation of the ethics pledges that go with the licenses and professional plaques on the wall, which I guess must be fakes. There was zero medical intake; the woman who “massaged” me spoke no English, ignored everything I said, and just rubbed her hands around randomly. At one point I flinched because her touch was tickling me, and she MOCKED ME and intentionally did it some more! Worse than worst massage experience, and an insult to the profession.

Update, in response to business’s reply: My review is as a trained and formerly California-licensed CMT (Certified Massage Therapist), MBLEX (national exam for massage practice & business ethics), and ABMP member (national prof massage organization). I’m VERY qualified to assess what is a good massage and what isn’t, and how clients should be treated. I’ve studied and practiced shiatsu in the U.S., experienced shiatsu in Japan, and I’m part Japanese. I had high hopes for receiving an excellent massage at your business (massage therapists need to receive as well as give!), but instead my experience was so much the opposite that I felt compelled to warn others. The intentional tickling and teasing was the tip of the iceberg of problems with my experience at your business.
Your City business license doesn’t mean anything about the quality of your services, it’s just compliance with local business taxes; I was referring to the state and national CMTA and ABMP professional massage certifications, which I know because I was a member of both, posted on your wall and which pledge specific ethics and client practices.
