I’ve been working with Jon for the past two years, and I can honestly say that he has been a game-changer for both my physical health and my overall well-being. When I first started, I was dealing with chronic back issues, and over the course of our work together, he not only helped me fix those problems but also guided me through rehabbing multiple injuries I caused through poor habits or overtraining. Thanks to his knowledge and patience, I’ve learned how to recover properly and prevent further injuries.

What stands out about Jon is his ability to teach foundational fitness in a way that empowers you long-term. He didn’t just give me exercises to “fix” problems in the moment; he gave me the tools to build a solid foundation, which has not only kept me injury-free but has also made me feel more capable and confident in all areas of my life. His approach to fitness is about more than just physical strength—it’s about creating balance, mobility, and a mindset that supports long-term health and well-being.

Beyond training, Jon has been a true mentor and life coach. He’s always been there to offer guidance when I needed it, helping me navigate personal challenges and encouraging me to push beyond my limits in ways I never thought possible. He’s the kind of person who genuinely cares about your success, both in the gym and outside of it.

If you're looking for someone who is knowledgeable, caring, and committed to helping you become the best version of yourself, I highly recommend Jon. His expertise, support, and personal touch make him a one-of-a-kind trainer and mentor.

Jon Mackey is the best! I struggle with hyper mobility and kept getting injured playing beach volleyball because I didn't have the strength and range of motion to support my game as I got older and struggled with hormonal weight gain. Jon approaches personal training with a safety first mindset, guiding you with exercises that support your individual goals to meet you where you are, and to ensure you do not get injured. He is approachable, grounded, and has a realistic attitude toward health & fitness that gets me excited to work out on days when I am not training, instead of feeling guilty about not. Highly recommend Strength in Balance!

I've been working with Jon for the past 3 months and I'm so happy with my results! I had a sore knee when I started working with him, and he was very understanding and made sure to design a program that was safe and effective for me.

As an added bonus he is also your therapist and knows far too much about my life now 🙂

The location of his gym is ideal on the westside with an outdoor area to enjoy the LA sunshine (when it decides to come out!).

The workouts are purposeful and I enjoy learning new routines and am never bored. And Jon is a specialist in his field, so he knows exactly what he's doing. He's always pushing me to reach my full potential, but he also makes sure that I'm safe and that I'm not overdoing it.

Overall, I highly recommend Jon as a personal trainer. He's friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive, and he's helped me to achieve my fitness goals in a safe and effective way.

When it comes to fitness, I’ve always felt overwhelmed and lost with all the different options. I’ve tried it all - ClassPass, bought (and later sold) a Peloton in the height of the pandemic, had an Equinox membership, took 1:1 private pilates sessions, and just went out for runs/bike rides around the city. I started seeing Jon 3 times a week two months ago and it’s been a complete game changer. For the first time in my life I’m not intimidated by working out and actually look forward to it, both in my sessions and on my ‘off’ days.

First off, Jon is a pleasure to be around. He is very mindful of my past injuries and prioritizes rehabilitating those injuries before incorporating more challenging exercises. Also worth noting, there are no “dumb questions” with him, I can ask him anything about exercise. Secondly, the facility is amazing - they have what you’d find in a state of the art gym and then some. I always am challenged by a wide variety of exercises and feel like we are taking advantage of what’s available in the space.

I’ve already recommended friends and colleagues to Jon and would do so to anyone else looking to elevate their fitness and improve their lifestyle. Since seeing him, I’ve lost over 10 lbs (exercise AND diet) and am a much stronger, faster runner. It’s only been two months and I’m excited to continue on this path!

I originally started working out with Jon to relieve some work stress and clean up my unhealthy lifestyle. But over the last 7 years he’s helped me: relieve chronic back pain, tone up for my wedding, stay sane during pregnancy/postpartum and discover a true love of fitness.

As a woman in my late 30’s, I’ve tried every fitness fad under the sun, but I’ve NEVER seen results the way I do after working out with Jon. We switch up the routine constantly so there’s no monotony and I always feel challenged in the safest, injury-free way. (Weight-training, boxing, ab/plank challenges…you name it.) I’m legitimately excited to work out with Jon every single time- every session is a privilege.

Jon is also a voracious consumer of health, science, rehab and fitness knowledge (well, all knowledge really- I challenge you to find a topic he can’t speak to,) which I deeply appreciate. I always feel confident that he’s steering my husband and I in the right direction re: choices to improve our quality of life in and out of the gym.

With each session I can feel myself getting stronger, healthier and happier and I’m eternally grateful.

Also- the gym has all the equipment I could ever need, great indoor/outdoor space and is really well ventilated. It’s personal and a completely safe, supportive space for anyone who’s nervous about getting back into a fitness routine or just prefers a private and judgement-free environment to work out in.

Jon is the GOAT! I’ve had a number of personal trainers in the last two decades and Jon has been my lifetime favorite, the one I’ll stick with for years to come. My body required a close level of care after having my first baby and he’s helped me build back my confidence. He excels at blending physical therapy with strength training & toning. He’s an all around wonderful human and I recommend him to all my friends.

Two years ago I partially tore my patella tendon playing tennis. I considered surgery but decided to go to Strength in Balance first. My trainer Jon is an athlete and extremely knowledgeable about sports injuries, PT and rehabilitation. He put together a full program of exercises that strengthened areas of weakness and allowed me to get back on the tennis court avoiding the operation and months of recovery. Couldn't recommend more, plus the gym is small, personal and well equipped.

My husband and I came to Jon looking for someone who was attentive to our specific needs, as I was recovering from baby #2 and my husband was managing his knee trouble. Jon has guided us through a routine that is customized for each of our needs and lets us to work out together. His approach has allowed us to push ourselves safely and he shares his knowledge and training so I'm learning along the way. My back pain is gone and I feel stronger than ever! My husband's knees feel great and the routine has been so helpful with managing work stress. We never feel intimidated in the gym and we look forward to our workouts!
